Hacienda Betulia (or simply Betulia Farm) is a unique phenomenon in the world of cocoa growers. Located near the town of Maceo, in the northwest of the Antioquia region of Colombia, the farm is a business founded by two cousins. The farm grows cocoa only from 3 mother trees, named B6, B8 and B9. The cocoa trees on the farm are propagated by grafting, without the use of any other imported cocoa trees. We can confidently say that quality is valued here much more than quantity – in 2018, the farm was recognized as the most innovative in Colombia, and only 5 tons of B9 cocoa beans are grown per year!
B9 cocoa beans are exceptionally white, so the dark chocolate produced looks as if it were made from milk – your eyes will definitely mistake it for milk chocolate. And your taste buds will explore the creamy texture and nutty and delicate fruity aftertastes.
Another thing we really want to share is the growers' attitude towards wildlife. This farm has established a 30-hectare forest reserve. Betulia Farm established it with the hope that other growers will follow their example and the fight against deforestation will become a more fashionable phenomenon.
